National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) For Students
This is the database for Federal student loans. After creating your account you will be able to locate the following information:

- Loan type (subsidized, unsubsidized, etc...)
- Original loan amount
- Date of issue
- Amount disbursed
- Loan holder/servicer
- Loan status (in repayment, deferred, default)
- Current balance
Problems with Student Loans
Federal Student Aid Ombudsman of the Department of Education
If you have a problem with your Federal Student loan and have been unable to get results with your lender/servicer, contacting the Ombudsman is your next step.
Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB)
The new CFPB has opened their student loan complaint system. This is the place to go to lodge complaints regarding problems with private student loans. They also want to hear about your student loan experience, you can tell your story here.
For those with Federal student loans, while the CFPB does not currently oversee federal loans, this site will link you to a form at the Federal Student Aid Ombudsman of the Department of Education.
